RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Lt. Gov. Dan Forest's recommendation for a mechanism to allow individuals and corporations to make donations to a fund for teachers is included in the budget plan making its way through the General Assembly.

In a news release, Lt. Gov. Forest praised the budget plan for providing teachers with an average 7 percent increase in pay, as well as for creating the North Carolina Education Endownment.

If the budget is approved and signed into law by Gov. Pat McCrory, the endowment will be a vehicle for contributions toward increasing teacher pay, either by a direct donation or through state tax forms.

The bill additionally creates a special “I Support Teachers” license plate, the proceeds from which will be deposited into the Endowment, according to the news release.
