RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - A new infusion of federal funds will expand Wi-Fi access to K-12 classrooms throughout the state. The $23 million check will bring the total funding for this initiative to nearly $40 million.

More than 375,000 K-12 students are expected to benefit. The money comes from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E-rate program.
 
In 2014, Gov. McCrory, Lt. Governor Dan Forest, State Superintendent June Atkinson, and State Chief Information Officer Chris Estes met with the FCC to encourage the use of federal funding for Wi-Fi in North Carolina.
