THURSDAY, SEPT. 3

Following approval of their August minutes, Board members will receive special presentations on the Race to the Top Report – Additional Observations on the Final Report on Turning Around the Lowest-Achieving Schools and from the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. State Superintendent June Atkinson will follow with her report to the Board, which will include recognition of Representative Hugh Blackwell and a legislative report from Legislative and Community Affairs Director Rachel Beaulieu.

 

Board members will then receive another special presentation on Race to the Top: An Evaluation of the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System and the Student Achievement Growth Standard: 2010-11 through 2013-14.

 

Under the Consent Agenda, members will approve the Race to the Top Report: An Evaluation of the North Carolina Educator Evaluation System and the Student Achievement Growth Standard: 2010-11 through 2013-14, Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee Report: Competitive Grants to Improve After-School Services, North Carolina Race to the Top: Overall Impact and Implementation Findings, Read to Achieve Guidebook Update, Dropout Exit Conference and Referral Process, Replacement of Compliance Commission Members, and Race to the Top Evaluation Report: Outcomes and Impacts of North Carolina’s Initiative on Turning Around the Lowest-Achieving Schools.

 

Committee chairs will then report out and members will take action on regular agenda items as appropriate. Chairman Bill Cobey will conclude the meeting with his comments followed by a discussion of any new and old business. Under new business, members will take up a resolution thanking the members of the Special Committee on Assessment.
