RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Seven North Carolina counties have between 12 and 19.5 percent of public school children enrolled in public charter schools.

A data map posted by the state Office of Public Charter Schools shows Durham, Vance, Person, Northhampton, Edgecombe, Pamlico, and Halifix counties in "red," denoting the highest percentages in the state.

Ten counties have between 8 and 11.9 percent of the public school population in charters. They are Rutherford, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Granville, Franklin, Chatham, Wilson, Bertie, Columbus and Martin.

Roughly one-third of North Carolina counties have very low charter enrollment -- less than 1 percent.
