GASTONIA, (AP) — The city of Gastonia has reached a settlement with several contractors for design problems with its new conference center.
The Gaston Gazette reported the city will receive $210,000 in the settlement.
City Attorney Ash Smith says the city council agreed to accept the settlement on Tuesday. The city expects repairs and lost reservations to total nearly $300,000.
Smith recommended accepting the smaller settlement to avoid several years of litigation and more expenses.
The city opened the new $10 million conference center in November.
Almost immediately, there were reports of problems as people dancing said the floor was bouncing.
The city canceled all events in February while the problem was evaluated.
The center reopened March 31 after some repairs. More work will be needed on the floor. |
