RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - While North Carolinians prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving, utility work is underway on the replacement Bonner Bridge in Dare County.

The work is the first step in construction of the key connector on Highway 12 over the Oregon Inlet. Cape Hatteras Electric Cooperative is doing the work so that construction can begin early next year.

The three-and-a-half mile bridge will take three years to construct and will cost $216 million. The current bridge has operated since 1963.
