RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - When Judge Bob Hunter takes a seat on the North Carolina Supreme Court late this week, lawyer Richard Dietz to follow behind him and assume Hunter's seat on the Court of Appeals.

Gov. Pat McCrory made both appointments. The domino effect came into play following the retirement of Chief Justice Sarah Parker, who is being replaced in the Chief's chair by Justice Mark Martin.

Dietz, a North Carolina board-certified specialist in appellate practice, is a partner in the Winston-Salem office of Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton LLP and a member of the firm’s Appellate and Supreme Court team.

He is vice chair of the Appellate Practice Section of the North Carolina Bar Association and is a long-serving member of the Bar Association’s Appellate Rules Committee, according to the governor's office.

It's not the first time the governor has called upon Dietz's expertise. Last year he appointed Dietz to the North Carolina Courts Commission, which studies the court system and recommends changes and improvements.
