RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - As the nation honored the legacy of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Gov. Pat McCrory announced two new appointments to the commission that commemorates the slain leader.

The appointees have been given a four-year appointment. They are:

Derek Partee (Mecklenburg County) – Partee is retired and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Gold Shield Lodge 757.

Phillip Smith (Wake County) – Smith is the pastor of Greater Fellowship Christian Church.

The commission works to encourage appropriate ceremonies and activities throughout the state relating to the observance of the legal holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday.

It also works to promote among the people of North Carolina an awareness and appreciation of the life and work of Martin Luther King. Jr.
