RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - She may want to become president, but before that, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be trying to help get Sen. Kay Hagan re-elected to North Carolina's hotly contested U.S. Senate seat.

Clinton is scheduled to campaign for the Democratic incumbent on Saturday.

Hagan's chief rival is pulling in a Republican party heavy-hitter to help his bid as well. On Wednesday, former vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan of Wisconsin will be in North Carolina stumping for the House Speaker.

The visits come as North Carolina begins early voting on Thursday.

Recent polls have shown the Senate race tightening, with Tillis pulling within a point of Hagan, who has led the race for months. Hagan has even referred to the tighter race in her fundraising emails.

A third candidate, Libertarian Sean Haugh, continues to pull 3 to 5 points in polls.
