RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - She's less than one month into her third term, 2nd District Rep. Renee Ellmers has angered the conservative wing of her party with her stance on illegal immigration and abortion.

Word across North Carolina is that Chatham County Republican Party Chairman Jim Duncan is seriously thinking about primarying Ellmers in 2016.

Duncan and others are oppose Ellmers' view that the federal government should have a mechanism for "earned legal status" for those who've been in the state illegally and who pay a penalty.

Last week, Ellmers was a leading voice among Democratic women and a few fellow Republican women who successfully killed a bill that would have outlawed abortion after 20 weeks. Ellmers said the exception for rape should not have required a woman to report the rape to police to qualify.

Ellmers was elected in 2010 as a Tea Party Republican. A registered nurse from Dunn, she came to the political stage as a vocal opponent of Obamacare.
