RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - It was back to court Monday for North Carolina's embattled election districts, which were redrawn by Republicans following the 2010 U.S. Census, as required by law.

Earlier this year the high court ruled the maps are constitutional, but those challenging the maps as discriminatory have received another shot at making their argument due to an order from the U.S. Supreme Court requiring North Carolina justices to review the case in the wake of a ruling on Alabama districts.

Alabama was told it had given too much credence to numerical percentages when drawing its election district boundaries. North Carolina must now take another look at this state's district through the prisim of the Alabama case.

State Sen. Bob Rucho of Mecklenburg County, a key player in the district maps, maintains they are "fair and legal." Opponents say the district lines dilute the influence of African American voters.
