Gubernatorial candidate Lt. Governor Dan Forest announced his edcuation plan.

Under the Forest administration, North Carolina’s public schools will be flexible enough to adapt to the demands of the modern economy while boosting academic performance. Parents will also have greater ability to choose a high-quality school setting that works for their child.

“We're going to do whatever it takes to make sure that we're preparing our students for the life in front of them right now,” Forest said. “That's how you put students first."

The plan is Forest's second major policy announcement in his 2020 campaign for Governor. In September, Forest announced a military policy that will establish North Carolina as the clear No. 1 most military-friendly state in the country.

Forest's education policy hinges on four projects.

1) Parents Pick. This initiative will offer parents more options to find schools that work for their children by protecting and expanding the Opportunity Scholarship program and putting public charter schools on a level playing field with traditional systems.

2) Four in the Door. This project will ensure our traditional public schools are safe and effective by ensuring each one has an empowered principal, an armed security guard, a computer science teacher and a trade professional.

3) ACT Now. This project increases transparency and accountability in North Carolina’s education system.

4) Learn and Earn. This initiative will expand opportunities for students to save money on college tuition and graduate with advanced credentials.
