Rep. Lisa Stone Barnes, R-Nash will run for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Rick Horner, R-Nash. The district also includes northern Johnston county.  Johnston County Commissioner Patrick Harris, a Republican, is already running, along with former Democratic Sen. Allen Wellons of Smithfield.

 

Barnes said she views a move to the Senate as "an opportunity to better serve the diverse and growing communities in central North Carolina."
