RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - After being critical of the Secret Service, Utah Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz was targeted by the assistant director of the agency, according to a report from the agency's inspector general.

The Hill reported Wednesday that an email shows the high ranking official, Edward Lowery, wrote of Chaffetz: “Some information that he might find embarrassing needs to get out." Days after that, a media report surfaced that Chaffetz had been unsuccessful at becoming a Secret Service agent.

The report also shows Chaffetz' file was widely circulated within the agency.

Chaffetz responded to Fox13 out of Salt Lake City, with this statement:

“Certain lines should never be crossed. The unauthorized access and distribution of my personal information crossed that line. It was a tactic designed to intimidate and embarrass me and frankly, it is intimidating. It’s scary to think about all the possible dangers in having your personal information exposed. The work of the committee, however, will continue. I remain undeterred in conducting proper and rigorous oversight.”
