State Audit: Belhaven Officials Failed To Enforce Utility Cut-Off Policy PDF Print E-mail

RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - An audit has revelead that Town of Belhaven officials didn't enforce the policy on utility cut-offs for non-payment, resulting in "large delinquent balances."

The conclusion appears in the report released by state Auditor Beth Wood's office. According to the summary:

"Investigators determined the former Town Manager, with awareness of the Mayor and Town Council, chose not to follow the Town’s utility cut-off policy, resulting in large delinquent account balances. Investigators also determined the town did not have a written travel policy creating the potential for abuse. In addition, the former Town Manager and former Finance Director failed follow standard accounting procedures."
