Former Lieutenant Governor Jim Gardner has resigned as chairman of the state Alcohol Beverage Control Commission. 
 
Gardner, who appointed by former governor Pat McCrory, submitted his resignation in a letter to Governor Roy Cooper according to the Raleigh news and Observer. 
 
Gardner wrote to Cooper that he was proud of the underage drinking prevention program "Talk It Out," the stronger enforcement of existing alcohol laws and the modernization of the commission's operations.
