RALEIGH, (SGRToday.com) - Socialist Bernie Sanders ran away with the Democratic Party's vote Tuesday, beating rival Democrat Hillary Clinton by 60 to 38 percent. On the Republican side, entrepreneur Donald Trump beat all his rivals handily, with 35 percent of the vote spread among eight candidates.

Preliminary exit poll data showed Clinton lost most key demographic groups to Sanders, but scoring with the 65-plus age range and those who make $200,000 or more per year.

Trump's closest competitor was Ohio Gov. John Kasich, who pulled 16 percent of the primary vote. Kasich had spent nearly a year in the state and conducted more than 100 town halls. His campaign is now reportedly adding staff in South Carolina in order to compete in the Feb. 20 primary.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio faltered, earning just 11 percent of the vote. He told supporters he had fumbled the key New Hampshire debate and would not make the same mistake again.

His political attacker, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, failed in his attempt to knock out Rubio and others, placing a dismal 6th with just 7 percent of the vote. Christie is re-assessing his campaign.
