Non-partisan races would become partisan under a number of legislative proposals filed in the General Assembly.

Some bills would have party designation down to local judges, town offices and school boards.

There are also measures that would have voters elect members of the State Board of Education, which are now appointed by the governor.

On Tuesday, House Bill 100 will get a hearing. It would make elections for District Court and Superior Court judges partisan.

Senate Bill 94 would make school board and municipal offices partisan. The N.C. League of Municipalities opposes partisan races.
